Ready, Set, Go

Ready, Set, Go is not just for fire prevention. It is also for firefighter preparedness. Friday, May 28, 2010 was the second and final day of fire preparedness exercises for the fire engine crews of CAL FIRE’s San Bernardino Unit. The exercise was held on the grounds of the historic Arrowhead Resort

The exercise included checking on each firefighter’s personal protective equipment and testing on fire fighting safety and general orders along with situations that shout “Watch Out”. Physical testing included a 1.5 mile hike, progressive five hundred foot hose lay up the side of a hill, and a fire shelter deployment. All of the physical events were timed.

CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit Deputy Chief Tim McClelland said “these exercises are necessary to ascertain the training and readiness of our firefighters as we move into the high fire hazard time of the year.” The exercise is also a way for engine crews to build the esprit de corps necessary to do their job safely and proficiently.
